History

American Sustainability Leadership Council was founded in 2003 based on the encouragement of like-minded visionaries who wanted to create a new innovative sustainable culture. We were one of the nation’s pioneer consortiums to endorse all sustainable energy solutions that improve profitability.

The Council adjourned its first forum in Harrisburg, PA working with national and local corporations and Pennsylvania government stakeholders.  The Council expanded beyond the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania area in 2005 to include the mid-Atlantic states.  In 2011 the Council located offices in SW Florida and began to connect the eastern coast sustainability corridor.

The Council functions as a platform to advance our “Councilors” (active participants).  By leveraging our relationships and insights, we can constantly reinvent ourselves to adapt to evolving trends that are requisite to Council organizations. We are relentless in the pursuit of delivering timely, targeted information and maximizing communications and define ourselves by the achievements and accolades of those who are participants.

In 2017, the Council created an adjunct division “The Institute”.  The Institute functions as an educational unit to provide continuing education for PE, LEED and other professionals who require ongoing education to maintain their certifications.  The Institute develops and manages the Smart Sustainability Professional (SSP) credential program.  The program is designed to enhance sustainability and add specialized knowledge in the evolving field of smart technology and education.  Simultaneously, professionals can acquire CEUs for various professions.

Founding corporations:  Caterpillar, UGI Utilities, UPS, General Motors, Air Products, Cummins, West Penn Sustainable Energy Fund, Harry Halloran Philanthropies, PA Turnpike Administration under the direction of Rosemary T McAvoy
